Dataspace4Health today announces its rebranding to Dataspace4Luxembourg, expanding its mission from a healthcare-focused initiative to a national umbrella for trusted data sharing across multiple sectors.
This rebranding ensures that the technologies, governance frameworks, and assets developed under Dataspace4Health can be reused and extended to other verticals. Under the new Dataspace4Luxembourg brand, the community will further expand into Dataspace4Energy, Dataspace4Mobility, Dataspace4Finance, Dataspace4Space, and additional domains of strategic importance.
Commitment to Healthcare Remains Strong
Dataspace4Health has gained significant recognition as a Gaia-X Lighthouse project, with strong endorsements and international visibility, including at the Data Exchange and Health Conference at the University of Tokyo. The healthcare vertical remains a cornerstone of the initiative, with ongoing use cases such as diabetes and cancer research continuing to advance. The community is fully committed to growing the health data sharing project further and welcomes new members, who gain full access to all resources and the ecosystem.
Why Rebranding Was Needed
From the outset, the Ministry of Economy required that all developments in Dataspace4Health be made available for reuse across other sectors. With this rebranding, that vision becomes reality. All resources, accessible via a public Git repository, are now open to additional verticals. Membership remains free of charge, and the onboarding process is already available for new organizations.
Sector-Specific Needs, Shared Foundations
Dataspaces are built on universal concepts and technologies, providing regulated access to data through standardized connectors. However, each vertical has its own specific requirements, often tied to regulatory conditions and the way data is stored or processed. For example, Dataspace4Health aligned closely with the upcoming European Health Dataspace regulations. Other sectors will require similar alignment, but they will all benefit from the same shared foundation.
That foundation includes the conceptual and technical assets developed as open source: the Dataspace4Health Reference Architecture, federated catalogue, identity and trust services, data contract and exchange modules, and supporting deployment toolkits. These assets are reusable across industries, ensuring efficiency and interoperability.
Enabling Cross-Sector Use Cases
One of the most important benefits of this expansion is the ability to address cross-sector use cases. For instance:
Developing green financial products that combine insights from Dataspace4Finance and Dataspace4Energy,
Managing virus spread in public transport during a pandemic, where Dataspace4Mobility and Dataspace4Health would work hand in hand.
Next Steps in Luxembourg
The rebranding process will continue through the end of the year, as the community updates its guidelines, platforms, and approvals. In parallel, discussions are already underway with stakeholders to establish an Energy Dataspace as the next major vertical.
"With Dataspace4Luxembourg, we are building on the success of Dataspace4Health while opening the door to new sectors," said Olivier Posty, SVP, NTT DATA Luxembourg. "Healthcare remains a top priority, but by reusing what we have built, we can now serve multiple verticals and unlock cross-sector innovation."
Q&A
Q: Will Dataspace4Health disappear or receive less attention during the rebranding process?
A: Absolutely not. On the contrary, Dataspace4Health continues to grow in recognition. Its international visibility—on stage at events, as a Gaia-X Lighthouse project, and most recently at the international Data Exchange and Health Conference at the University of Tokyo—has made Dataspace4Health a respected brand. We remain fully committed to healthcare, continue to welcome new members, and ensure they gain full access to all developed resources and the ecosystem. Dataspace4Luxembourg builds on this success.
Q: Why rebrand from Dataspace4Health to Dataspace4Luxembourg?
A:Â From the outset, the Ministry of Economy requested that everything developed in Dataspace4Health should be reusable by other sectors in Luxembourg. With this rebranding, we are fulfilling that requirement. All resources, available via a public Git repository, are now openly accessible across verticals. Membership of the community remains free of charge.
Q: Why open the Dataspace4Luxembourg framework to additional verticals beyond healthcare like Dataspace4Energy, Dataspace4Mobility, Dataspace4Finance, or Dataspace4Space?
A: While dataspaces are generic—providing universal concepts and technologies for regulated data access via standard connectors—each sector has specific regulatory and operational requirements. In healthcare, for instance, Dataspace4Health aligned its approach with the upcoming European Health Dataspace regulations, with use cases focused on diabetes and cancer. Similarly, each new vertical will address sector-specific needs while leveraging shared frameworks.
Q: What is the advantage of applying the same dataspace framework across different sectors? A: The dataspace concept remains consistent across all sectors. The conceptual and technical assets developed as open source include the Dataspace4Health Reference Architecture, federated catalogue, identity and trust services, data contract and exchange modules, and supporting deployment toolkits. These are all reusable across industries. Most importantly, this foundation enables cross-sector use cases—for example:
Developing green financial products that link Dataspace4Finance and Dataspace4Energy,
Studying virus spread in public transport during a pandemic, combining Dataspace4Mobility and Dataspace4Health.
Q: When will the rebranding process be finalized?
A: The transition is ongoing and expected to complete by the end of the year. Rebranding involves more than updating a logo or website—it also includes adapting community guidelines and securing formal approvals. However, the onboarding process is already live, and new members are welcome to join today.
Q: What is the next vertical dataspace in Luxembourg? A:Â Discussions are currently underway with stakeholders to launch an Energy Dataspace for Luxembourg. We invite organizations interested in this or similar initiatives to contact us and join the conversation.
